World Read Aloud Day, March 4, 2015
With our busy, rich lives, it is sometimes difficult to fit in even a few minutes for some uninterrupted reading time. Fortunately, there is a day dedicated to stopping our busy lives, if even just for a brief moment in time to simply to read out loud. It can be an excerpt of a longer book that you read to your class of 6th graders. Enough to whet the whistle of inquiry. Maybe a beautifully illustrated picture book to several third graders. One with a message, not just for entertainment. "Every Kindness" by Jacqueline Woodson comes to mind. A few moments snuggling with a child to read a silly story like "Fox in Socks". Or, even a young, married couple, who takes a few moments after the work day to read parts of a news article out loud to one another. Here are some more ideas to make the most of this year's World Read Aloud Day.
