Curriculum

The GCCS Library Media Center embraces the American Association of School Libraries (AASL) learning standards to shape the library program and serve as a tool for school librarians to use to shape the learning of students in the school. To that end, the GCCS LMS also aligns with Common Core by supporting our grade level, specials and subject-matter teachers in the areas of ELA, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, Technology and the Arts, and Foreign Language.

We believe that the Library Media Curriculum will:

  • provide opportunities for students and staff to become life-long learners who can

independently access, evaluate, and use information

  • promote literacy and reading

  • provide instruction in the use of information technology and search strategies

extend the classroom curriculum through an educational partnership between

teachers and the library media specialist

  • utilize current technology and services to assist students in becoming proficient

       users of information

Learners use skills, resources, & tools to:

1.     Inquire, think critically and gain knowledge.

2.     Draw conclusions, make informed decisions, apply knowledge to new situations, and create            knowledge.

3.     Share knowledge and participate ethically and productively as

members of o ur democratic society.

4.     Pursue personal and aesthetic growth.
